Lenka Dolanová talks about her recently published book dedicated to the research of the early video art histories
Lenka Dolanová, an art historian, curator and researcher of the border between art, ecology and new media who finalized her studies for her PhD at Prague Film School (FAMU) with thesis on the pioneer of video art Woody Vasulka. Last few years she devoted to research on Vasulka, because she was attracted by their personal history, especially their self-reflected feature of their work as well as they were obsessed with documenting their own work. She is currently teaching at Masaryk University in Brno, where she has even a series of lectures devoted to research on Vasulkas.
I wanted to make it open, not present it like my strong view so that anyone can come and take something out of it, some pieces and make some other story. She presents her recently published book called Dialog with demons tools: Steina and Woody Vasulkas, what is monograph more focused on Woody, but there is also mention about Steina, because their work is connected very tightly, especially at the beginning in sixties and seventies. The book is written chronologically as their life is easily divided into chapters according to where they moved, how they discovered the different tools and different media.
